Grand Master College

The Magnus Magister College is the most exclusive and elevated constitutional body of the Mandatum Order, second only to the Supreme Council. It is not an academic university, but rather the supreme governing council composed exclusively of those who hold the lifelong rank of Magnus Magister (MM).

The Magnus Magister College serves as the elite advisory body of the Order, composed solely of the Magnus Magister. It stands as the core of wisdom, experience, and electoral governance within Mandatum, acting as the foremost reservoir of moral and strategic authority.

COLLEGE

The College of Magnus is the supreme collegiate body, composed of members who hold the lifetime title of Magnus Magister.

COMPOSITION

The number of members is limited to twelve (12) Magnus Magisters. This limitation guarantees an agile, deliberative body of exceptional quality.

Prerogative

The Supreme Council, in the exercise of its sovereignty, holds the discretionary prerogative to increase or decrease this numerical limit, according to the strategic needs of the Order’s expansion or governance.

 

Origin

Any individual who is elected or appointed to hold an office in the Supreme Council automatically, and for life, obtains the rank of Magnus Magister and, consequently, a seat in this College (Art. 17.5).

ATTRIBUTIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ELECTORAL FUNCTION

It is the sole authority with the sovereign power to elect the members of the Supreme Council which includes the Grand Knight, the Deputy Grand Knight, and the Custodian of Secrets. This responsibility ensures that the executive leadership of the Order arises from its most experienced and loyal circle.

CONSULTATIVE AND BALANCING FUNCTION

The Magnus College serves as the principal advisory body to the Supreme Council on matters of significant strategic, diplomatic, or humanitarian importance. While its opinions are not binding in daily operations, they reflect the collective voice of the highest authority. The College holds a decisive role in tiebreaking situations: if the Supreme Council fails to reach the necessary unanimity for a decision, the matter is referred to this College. The final resolution is adopted by a simple majority of the combined votes from both the Supreme Council and the Magnus College, with the latter serving as the ultimate guarantor of governance.

Its existence guarantees that the Jus Honorum and the leadership of the Order remain in the hands of those who have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and commitment to the ideals of Mandatum.

Membership

The title of Magnus Magister (MM) represents the pinnacle of membership within the Order, ranking just below the active positions of the Supreme Council and is held for life.

Given your equivalent rank of Grand Cross with Collar, your formal address in official events and correspondence is Your Most Reverend Excellency.

Members of this College proudly utilise the post-nominal abbreviation MM in their signatures and all official documentation, signifying their association with the esteemed governing elite.
