Mandatum and the Government of Suriname Seal Strategic Alliance for the Construction of 10,000 Sustainable Homes
In a historic step for the expansion of the Order’s humanitarian missions in the region, Ordo Supremus Pro Causis Humanitariis (Mandatum) has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Suriname for the comprehensive development of the “Affordable Housing Initiative.”
This agreement establishes the collaborative framework for the design, financing, and management of a large-scale housing project, designed to alleviate the housing shortage affecting the workforce, essential services personnel, and the working middle class of the country.
Key Pillars of the Project
Housing Scope: Construction and administration of 10,000 housing units under a subsidized rental model.
Fiscal Neutrality: The project will be executed without generating sovereign debt or requiring capital from the Surinamese State, utilizing international funds channeled through urban development investment structures.
“Model Neighborhood” Framework: Mandatum will maintain long-term management to ensure communities characterized by safety, order, and high-quality infrastructure.
Sustainability and SDGs: The initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, integrating energy efficiency, the use of renewable energies, and climate change adaptation.
Official Ratification
The document was ratified by the Minister of Regional Development of Suriname, Miquella Huur, and by our Grand Knight, Daniel Tusian. Furthermore, the process was validated by Alfred Michael Glenn Williams, Procurator for Government Liaison.
This collaboration seeks not only to raise structures but to forge vibrant, self-sufficient communities that serve as a model of progress for Suriname and the region.
